The Turkish government has chosen a crypto enthusiast, Ahmet Merghül, to serve on the board of the country’s central bank. Merghül, who is a professor at Istanbul Technical University, is well known for his expertise on digital technologies and blockchain, having written a book on the same subject. He brings more than four decades of experience in educational and academic research to the table. Erdogan is looking for Merghül to help the bank’s efforts to use digital currencies and blockchain technologies as tools for economic development. Merghül is also expected to advise the bank on how best to regulate cryptocurrency and how to ensure robust consumer protection measures.
