Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell are calling for transparency and accountability from the Biden administration as they respond to reports that former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden were involved in business dealings in Ukraine and China.
McConnell has urged the Senate to launch an investigation into the Biden’s activities. “The American people deserve a full accounting of any financial or other influence that the Biden family sought or received while in office,” McConnell said.
Pelosi has indicated that she has not seen any evidence of wrongdoing by the Bidens and does not support launching an investigation into their affairs. “There is no evidence of any wrongdoing by either of them,” she said.
However, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has taken a different stance, calling Biden’s actions a “cover-up.”
The Biden administration has denied any wrongdoing and has called the allegations “baseless.” President Biden has nominated Judge Merrick Garland to be the attorney general to help ensure a fair and impartial investigation into any claims of wrongdoing.
The House is continuing its impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump related to his attempts to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens. The impeachment articles passed the House for a second time, and the Senate will hold an impeachment trial.
