DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers said Sunday it has chosen new strike locations as its walkout against General Motors enters a second week. The UAW’s main office said the new locations are in Lansing; Flint; Pontiac and Saginaw, Michigan; Kokomo, Indiana; and St. Louis, Missouri. All are cities where GM operates major factories. The statement says local union leaders are working to finalize details of the local strikes, which will happen in the coming days.
The strike began Monday, and it has idled more than 50,000 workers at GM factories and parts warehouses around the country. The union is typically negotiating for higher wages, better job security and a bigger share of GM’s profits. The strike is the first national work stoppage at GM since 2007.
